AI Lab Offers Free Home Repairs to Train Robots
Original: AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs to train AI robots
An AI lab is offering free plumbing, HVAC, electrical, air duct cleaning and carpet cleaning services across three US cities while training its robots. Technicians wear sensors that record video of repair work, and the footage is used as training data for AI-powered robotics. The arrangement gives residents free skilled services while giving the company a way to collect real-world repair demonstrations at scale.
Why now: The unusual trade of free skilled labour for robotics training data is striking people as a novel approach to solving AI's data scarcity problem.
