AI lab offers free home repairs to train robots
Original: AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs to train AI robots
An artificial intelligence lab is providing free plumbing, HVAC, electrical, air duct cleaning and carpet cleaning services across three US cities, using wearable sensors to record video of technicians performing the work. The footage is used to train AI-powered robots to handle skilled physical labour, a move sparking debate about the ethics of using workers' skills to automate them.
Why now: People are discussing the unusual and ethically fraught approach of using free human labour, captured on video, to train robots that may eventually replace those workers.
