AI lab offers free home repairs to train robots
Original: AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs to train AI robots
An AI lab is offering free plumbing, HVAC, electrical, air duct and carpet cleaning services across three US cities, with workers wearing sensors that record video of the repair work. The footage is used to train AI-powered robots to perform hands-on household tasks, a growing frontier in robotics research.
Why now: The unusual trade of free skilled labor for training data highlights the industry's scramble to collect real-world physical task data for robotics.
