AI lab offers free home repairs to train robots
Original: AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs to train AI robots
An AI lab is offering free plumbing, HVAC, electrical, air duct and carpet cleaning services across three cities, with technicians wearing sensors that record video of repair work. The footage is used to train AI-powered robots to perform skilled manual labour, turning routine household maintenance into valuable robotics training data.
Why now: The unusual trade of free skilled labour for training data sparks debate about how AI companies acquire real-world robotics data.
