ICE stores protester photos in Palantir database
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is reportedly collecting photographs of protesters and adding them to a database built by Palantir, the data analytics company founded by Peter Thiel. The report has drawn criticism from civil liberties advocates, who argue it expands surveillance of political speech and raises questions about how facial images of people not charged with crimes are being retained and used.
Why now: Renewed concern over government surveillance of activists and ICE's expanding data partnership with Palantir.
