Ukraine Can't Stop Russia's Jet-Powered Shahed Drone
Russia has fitted jet engines to its Shahed-type attack drones, making them faster and harder for Ukrainian air defenses to intercept. IEEE Spectrum reports the upgraded drones travel quicker than propeller-driven versions, shortening reaction time for gunners and missiles. The development raises fresh concerns about Ukraine's ability to protect cities and infrastructure as drone attacks continue nightly.
Why now: The upgrade marks an escalation in drone warfare that could strain Ukraine's air defenses further.
