Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content
Wikipedia editors are running a dedicated effort to identify and remove or rewrite AI-generated text across the encyclopedia. The initiative, covered by IEEE Spectrum, highlights growing concern among volunteers that machine-written passages introduce subtle errors and unsourced claims into articles. Commenters online are debating how effectively such content can be detected and how far the cleanup project can realistically go.
Why now: Rising volumes of AI-generated text on Wikipedia have prompted a coordinated volunteer cleanup effort, drawing attention to reliability of crowdsourced knowledge.
