Wikipedia Volunteers Ramp Up Cleanup of AI-Generated Content
Original: Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content
Wikipedia editors are organizing a dedicated effort to identify and remove AI-generated text from the encyclopedia. The initiative, known as WikiProject AI Cleanup, involves volunteers reviewing suspicious articles, improving detection practices, and deciding how machine-written contributions should be handled. The effort highlights growing tension between Wikipedia's reliance on volunteer-written content and the flood of low-quality, artificially generated material now appearing across the site.
Why now: Concern is rising over AI-generated text degrading the quality and reliability of Wikipedia articles.
