Wikipedia Launches Cleanup of AI-Generated Content
Original: Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content
Wikipedia editors are running a dedicated effort to identify and remove or rewrite AI-generated text across the encyclopedia. The initiative, organised under WikiProject AI Writing Cleanup, reflects growing concern among contributors that machine-written passages are flooding articles with plausible-sounding but unverified or fabricated material. The project underscores a broader tension in online communities between adopting AI tools and preserving editorial accuracy and human accountability.
Why now: The rapid spread of AI-generated text into widely used reference sources has raised concerns about accuracy and trust, prompting active community response.
