Children asked to rear harvest mice for Devon release
Original: Wanted: children to rear harvest mice at home for wild release in Devon
Two teenagers, Eva Wishart and Emily Smith, have launched a project in Devon asking families and children to rear harvest mice at home before releasing them into the wild. The scheme aims to breed and release 250 of the tiny mammals by September to boost local populations. The unusual call for young volunteer caretakers has drawn attention for its hands-on approach to conservation.
Why now: The novelty of children hand-rearing wild mice for conservation release is capturing public interest.
