Children wanted to rear harvest mice for Devon release
Original: Wanted: children to rear harvest mice at home for wild release in Devon
Two teenagers, Eva Wishart and Emily Smith, have launched a conservation project in Devon calling on children to rear harvest mice at home before releasing them into the wild. The aim is to breed and release 250 of the tiny animals by September, boosting local populations of a species that has declined in the British countryside.
Why now: The unusual idea of recruiting children to hand-rear wild mice is charming and novel, drawing wide attention.
