Study Finds Body Awareness in Goffin's Cockatoos

Original: Body Awareness in Goffin's Cockatoos

A study published in Scientific Reports indicates that Goffin's cockatoos show body awareness, the ability to account for their own bodies when acting on objects. The finding is drawing attention because such self-representation has been considered rare outside humans and a few primates, adding to the species' reputation for advanced cognition and tool use.

Why now: A new peer-reviewed study suggests a parrot species possesses a cognitive capacity once thought to be largely human-specific.
