Goffin's Cockatoos Show Body Awareness in New Study

Original: Body Awareness in Goffin's Cockatoos

A new study published in Scientific Reports finds that Goffin's cockatoos display body awareness, an ability to understand their own bodies in relation to their surroundings. The research adds to growing evidence of sophisticated cognition in these Indonesian parrots, which have previously shown tool use and problem-solving skills. Researchers say the findings could shed light on the evolution of self-representation in animals.

Why now: A newly published peer-reviewed study on animal cognition is drawing attention and discussion.
