Goffin's Cockatoos Show Body Awareness in New Study
Original: Body Awareness in Goffin's Cockatoos
A new study published in Scientific Reports examines body awareness in Goffin's cockatoos, a parrot species already known for its problem-solving abilities. Researchers tested how the birds respond to challenges that require recognising their own bodies as obstacles, adding to evidence of sophisticated cognition in parrots and fuelling debate about self-awareness in animals.
Why now: New research on animal cognition and self-awareness in a famously clever parrot species has drawn widespread attention.
