The Marylebone Cricket Club has been forced to abandon plans to fast-track female membership, according to reporting by The Athletic. The club at Lord's, once criticised for admitting women as full members only in 1999, had sought to accelerate the process, but the plan has now been dropped. The decision has drawn attention from cricket followers and equality advocates.
Why now: The MCC's membership policy is a long-standing equality issue in cricket, so a reversal of reform plans draws criticism and debate.
