The Marylebone Cricket Club, owner of Lord's, has abandoned plans to fast-track female membership after facing internal resistance. The move marks a setback for efforts to accelerate gender equality at the traditionally male institution, which only began admitting women as full members in 1999. Cricket followers are debating what the reversal says about the club's commitment to reform.
Why now: The surprise reversal on a long-awaited equality reform at cricket's most storied club has drawn criticism and debate.
