Hacker News users ask for a dark mode
Original: Ask HN: Dark mode for HN please? (2026)
Hacker News users are once again calling for the site to add a dark mode option. The request, posted as an 'Ask HN' question, asks why the famously minimalist news aggregator still only offers its traditional bright white interface. The plea has drawn support from readers who prefer darker screens, particularly when browsing at night, though the site's maintainers have historically resisted interface changes.
Why now: Users are frustrated that a popular, long-running site still lacks a basic dark mode feature many modern services offer.
