UK to ban pornography depicting strangulation and incest from November
Original: Pornography showing strangulation and incest to be banned in UK from November
The UK government is set to outlaw pornography depicting strangulation and incest, with the ban taking effect in November. The move follows years of campaigning by groups who argued that depictions of choking normalise violence against women and are linked to real-world harm. Under the new rules, producing and distributing such material will become a criminal offence, with regulators tasked with enforcement. Supporters have welcomed the change as long overdue, while some critics raise questions about enforcement and free expression.
Why now: The government has just confirmed the ban's implementation date, prompting debate over its enforcement and free-speech implications.
