UK to ban pornography depicting strangulation and incest from November
Original: Pornography showing strangulation and incest to be banned in UK from November
The UK government will make it illegal from November to produce or distribute pornography depicting strangulation or incest. The move follows long-running campaigns by women's safety groups who argue such content normalises violence and abuse. The new rules tighten the Online Safety Act framework, and debate is expected over how effectively platforms will be forced to enforce the ban.
Why now: A major new content restriction with free-speech and enforcement implications is taking effect soon, prompting wide discussion.
