The European has published a piece arguing that brutal drug-related crime in Germany is increasing rapidly following the legalisation of cannabis. The claim is being shared with hashtags referencing Friedrich Merz, Markus Söder and Lars Klingbeil, suggesting politicians' positions on drug policy are drawing attention. Critics and supporters of Germany's cannabis law are likely to use the report in the ongoing debate over whether legalisation has made the country safer or more dangerous.
Why now: Germany's cannabis legalisation remains politically contested, and reports linking it to rising drug crime fuel the debate between conservative and centre-left politicians.
