A German commentary in The European argues that brutal drug-related crime is rising rapidly, linking the trend to the debate over cannabis legalisation. The piece name-checks Friedrich Merz, Markus Söder and Lars Klingbeil, reflecting an ongoing political fight in Germany over whether legalising cannabis has fuelled violence and organised narcotics crime.
Why now: Germany's cannabis legalisation remains contested, and claims of rising drug crime are being used by critics to attack the policy.
