Ukraine reports unexplained Starlink access restriction
Original: 'This cannot be a coincidence' — Ukraine's Starlink access restricted without warning, Zelensky adviser says
A senior adviser to President Zelensky said Ukraine's access to SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet was restricted without warning, writing that 'this cannot be a coincidence'. Ukraine relies heavily on Starlink to operate its mid-strike drones in Russian-occupied territory, so any disruption has immediate military implications. The remark has sparked concern and speculation about whether the cut was deliberate, technical, or politically motivated, and about Ukraine's dependence on a single commercial provider for battlefield communications.
Why now: An abrupt disruption to a service critical to Ukraine's drone operations raises fears about political pressure on or unreliability of Starlink support.
