Unmodified Linux amdgpu driver now runs on an iPad
Original: Running the unmodified Linux amdgpu driver on an iPad
A developer has demonstrated the Linux amdgpu graphics driver running unmodified on an iPad, an unexpected achievement given Apple's tightly locked hardware and the driver's original design for AMD graphics cards on x86 systems. The project, shared via the LemonSeed Studio repository, is drawing attention for what it suggests about porting mainstream Linux drivers to non-standard hardware.
Why now: Running a desktop GPU driver unmodified on Apple's locked-down tablet hardware is a surprising technical feat that fascinates the Linux and hardware hacking communities.
