YouTuber's police-tracking camera draws police visit
Original: YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to track police vehicles, gets police visit
A Canadian YouTuber built a license-plate-recording camera, similar to Flock Safety systems, configured to track only police vehicles, and officers subsequently visited his home to raise privacy concerns. The project highlights the irony that surveillance tools used against the public can be turned around, and it has sparked debate about privacy, police accountability and the double standard around mass vehicle tracking.
Why now: The role reversal of surveillance technology being aimed at police, followed by a police visit, makes the story provocative and widely shared.
