Iulia Popovici examines Securitate files on theatre informers

Original: 📚 Iulia Popovici a cercetat zeci de mii de file din arhivele Securității pentru a înțelege de ce oamenii de teatru dădea

Researcher Iulia Popovici has combed through tens of thousands of pages from the Securitate archives to understand why Romanian theatre figures informed on their colleagues. Her book was launched behind the scenes at the National Theatre of Bucharest and will be presented on 18 October at the National Theatre Festival. The topic touches a raw nerve in Romanian cultural life, where collaboration with the communist-era secret police remains a sensitive subject.

Why now: The book's presentation at the National Theatre Festival brings renewed attention to the still-sensitive history of artistic collaboration with the Securitate.
