New book examines why Romanian theatre artists informed on colleagues

Original: 📚 Iulia Popovici a cercetat zeci de mii de file din arhivele Securității pentru a înțelege de ce oamenii de teatru dădea

Researcher Iulia Popovici has gone through tens of thousands of pages from the Securitatea archives to understand why theatre professionals gave notes denouncing their colleagues during the communist era. The resulting book was launched backstage at the National Theatre of Bucharest and will be presented on 18 October at the National Theatre Festival. It sheds light on collaboration with the secret police within Romania's theatre world.

Why now: Interest in how Romania's theatre community collaborated with the Securitatea, sparked by the book's launch and upcoming presentation at the National Theatre Festival.
