Pentagon to livestream firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter

Original: Pentagon to livestream military execution of Ft Hood shooter

The Pentagon says the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army major convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be carried out by firing squad and livestreamed, an unusual step for a US military execution. Commentators are debating the precedent, the ethics of broadcasting an execution, and why the military chose this method after years of delays in his case.

Why now: Livestreaming a military execution would be unprecedented in modern US history, sparking debate over transparency and the death penalty.
