The Pentagon says the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the US Army major sentenced to death for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people, will be livestreamed, with reports indicating he would face a firing squad. The move is drawing attention because it would be an unprecedented public broadcast of a US military execution, reviving debate over the death penalty and the transparency of military justice.
Why now: It would be the first livestreamed US military execution, a historic and controversial precedent.
