Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Finnish Forest for Data Centre
Original: Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Forest for a Finnish Data Centre
Google is facing accusations that it cleared roughly 300 hectares of forest in Finland to make way for a data centre. The claim has drawn criticism from people questioning the environmental cost of tech companies' infrastructure expansions, particularly given Google's public commitments to sustainability and carbon-free operations.
Why now: The accusation clashes with Google's sustainability image, making the environmental impact of data centre growth a contentious topic.
