Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Forest for Finnish Data Centre
Original: Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Forest for a Finnish Data Centre
Google is facing accusations that it cleared some 300 hectares of forest to make way for a data centre in Finland. The claim has sparked criticism of the environmental cost of the company's expanding data centre infrastructure, particularly given Google's public commitments to sustainability and carbon-free operations. Commenters are questioning how such land clearance fits with those pledges.
Why now: The accusation clashes with Google's sustainability image amid growing scrutiny of data centres' environmental footprint.
