Micro Center demands photo ID and no-export pledge for RTX 5090 buyers

Original: Micro Center requires photo ID and signed no-export pledge to buy gaming GPU

Micro Center is now asking customers to show photo ID and sign a written declaration before buying Nvidia's RTX 5090 gaming GPU. The pledge requires buyers to disclose where the card will be installed and promise it will stay in the United States. The move reflects tightened enforcement of US export controls that bar advanced chips from being resold to restricted countries.

Why now: Retailers are enforcing new US export restrictions on high-end GPUs, and the ID-and-pledge requirement is an unusual burden on ordinary gamers.
