Original: Virtual reality can induce mystical experiences, new study suggests https://www. psypost.org/virtual-reality-ca n-induce
A new study suggests virtual reality can induce mystical-type experiences in users without the use of psychedelics. The findings point to immersive technology as a way to produce feelings of unity, awe, or transcendence similar to those reported in religious or psychedelic states. Commenters are sharing the research in technology and religion circles, with interest in what this means for psychology, neuroscience, and the study of consciousness.
Why now: Fresh research suggesting technology can replicate profound spiritual experiences challenges assumptions about the uniqueness of mystical states.
