Warp's Zach Lloyd: software engineering is becoming factory engineering
Original: Software Engineering Is Becoming Factory Engineering — Zach Lloyd, Warp
Zach Lloyd, CEO of AI coding startup Warp, argues that software engineering is shifting into what he calls "factory engineering": AI agents handle much of the code production at scale, while human engineers act more like supervisors and quality controllers of automated lines. The comparison has sparked debate among developers about whether AI will deskill programming or simply reposition engineers above a new production system.
Why now: AI coding agents are rapidly changing developers' day-to-day work, so views on how the profession is being restructured are drawing wide attention.
