ICC introduces penalty for batters wasting time
The International Cricket Council has brought in a new penalty aimed at batters who waste time during matches. Under the rule, delays by the batting side can now result in sanctions, extending the time-wasting crackdown that previously focused mainly on bowlers and fielding teams. The change is part of the ICC's broader effort to speed up play and keep matches moving across formats.
Why now: The new rule has just been announced and affects how cricket matches are played at international level.
