ICC Introduces Penalty for Batters Wasting Time
The International Cricket Council has brought in a new penalty targeting batters who waste time during matches. Under the rule, batters must be ready to face deliveries promptly, with delays now punishable in the same way bowlers have long been penalised for slow over rates. The move is part of the ICC's wider push to speed up play across international cricket.
Why now: Cricket's governing body has just announced a new playing condition aimed at slow over rates and time-wasting.
