Israel to close West Bank and Gaza crossings before Oct. 7 anniversary
Original: Crossings into West Bank and Gaza to be closed, ahead of Oct. 7 anniversary
Israeli authorities are closing crossings into the West Bank and Gaza Strip ahead of the October 7 anniversary of the Hamas-led attack that triggered the war in Gaza. Such closures are typically imposed as a security measure around sensitive dates, restricting Palestinian labourers and others from crossing into Israel. The move comes amid heightened tensions and expectations of commemorations and possible unrest.
Why now: The first anniversary of the October 7 attack is approaching, prompting Israeli security precautions.
