Cardinal Cupich says defending immigrants is an act of worship
Original: Cardinal Cupich: Advocacy for immigrants is an act of worship
Chicago's Cardinal Blase Cupich declared that advocacy for immigrants is an act of worship, framing the defence of migrants as a religious duty. The Vatican's news outlet carried his remarks, giving them international reach within the Catholic Church. The statement lands amid ongoing political conflict in the United States over immigration enforcement and the treatment of migrant families.
Why now: Immigration is a hotly contested political issue in the US and a senior cardinal's framing of it as worship fuels that debate.
