EU countries prepare deportation centers in Africa
Original: 🔴DW News October 1: EU countries prepare deportation centers in Africa
DW News reports that European Union countries are preparing plans to establish deportation centers in Africa, as part of efforts to outsource asylum processing and returns of rejected migrants. The move reflects the EU's broader push to toughen migration policy, and it is already drawing debate over human rights, the handling of asylum seekers outside Europe, and cooperation with African governments.
Why now: The EU's externalized migration and deportation policy is a contentious, ongoing political debate.
