Former NHK announcer Minori Aoi joins Japanese morning show

Original: 青井実

Announcer Minori Aoi has taken up a new post on the Japanese morning program '5ji-Dream' (5時夢). Reports had framed the move as a demotion to a regional station following his departure from NHK amid a power harassment scandal, but coverage argues it is in fact a step up. Separately, comedian Emiko Uenami spoke warmly of reuniting with the tall 45-year-old former NHK announcer, saying she was delighted to be looked up at again.

Why now: Aoi's new show appointment, following reports of his exit from NHK over a power harassment scandal, is drawing fresh media attention.
