Putin says EU will collapse on its own
Original: "NO NEED, THEY'LL COLLAPSE ON THEIR OWN!" — Putin on the future of the EU at Valdai
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club forum, Vladimir Putin dismissed the idea that Russia needs to act against the European Union, saying there is "no need" because the bloc will "collapse on its own." The remark has drawn wide attention, with commentators debating whether it reflects genuine confidence, propaganda aimed at domestic audiences, or a signal of Russia's long-term strategy toward Europe amid ongoing tensions over Ukraine.
Why now: Putin's provocative prediction about the EU's demise at a high-profile forum feeds current debates over Europe's political cohesion and the Russia-Ukraine war.
