Calls grow to ditch cars entirely, not just switch to electric

Commentators are pointing to a BBC News article as fresh support for reducing car use altogether, arguing that moving from combustion engines to electric vehicles does not solve the wider problems of car dependency, such as emissions from manufacturing, congestion and road danger. The discussion frames both petrol and electric cars as part of the problem, favouring public transport, cycling and walkable cities instead.
Why now: A BBC report on cars has reignited debate among climate-focused users over whether electrification goes far enough.
