Study Traces Tech Movements' Role in the American Administrative State
Original: From Civic Tech to DOGE: The Role of Tech Movements in the American Admin State
A new academic paper published in a public administration journal examines how American technology movements, from the civic tech movement to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have shaped the US administrative state. The article analyzes how tech communities' reformist ideals have carried into government, and the tensions between technological approaches and traditional public administration. Readers are debating the paper's framing of DOGE as a continuation of earlier civic tech currents.
Why now: The debate over DOGE's drastic overhaul of federal agencies is prompting reflection on tech movements' longer history in government reform.
