From Civic Tech to DOGE: Tech Movements Reshape American Government
Original: From Civic Tech to DOGE: The Role of Tech Movements in the American Admin State
A new academic paper examines how technology movements have influenced the American administrative state, tracing a line from the civic tech movement to DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. The study analyses how technologists' ideals about government reform have moved from open-data activism into the heart of federal efforts to restructure and downsize the bureaucracy.
Why now: The ongoing debate over DOGE's sweeping changes to US federal agencies is drawing attention to the intellectual roots of tech-driven government reform.
