Original: Half of UK wants to rejoin EU and backing it could drive up Labour vote, megapoll finds
A major new poll for the Guardian suggests half of UK voters want to rejoin the European Union, and that backing re-entry could increase Labour's vote. The findings are expected to encourage figures in No 10 who favour negotiating a return to the EU, though senior government figures remain wary of reopening the Brexit debate.
Why now: A newly published megapoll on EU re-entry attitudes is fresh political news with implications for Labour's strategy.
