Environment group calls for moratorium on data centers

Original: Data center moratorium now

Environment America is calling for an immediate moratorium on new data center construction. The advocacy group argues that the rapid expansion of data centers, driven by artificial intelligence demand, is straining power grids, driving up electricity costs, and increasing fossil fuel emissions. The demand for a halt to new projects reflects growing environmental scrutiny of the tech industry's infrastructure boom across the United States.

Why now: Concerns are growing over the environmental and energy impacts of the AI-driven data center boom.
