First RFC1149 avian carrier packet auctioned at Christie's

Original: The first packet sent via RFC1149 avian carrier is up for auction at Christie's

The first data packet ever transmitted using RFC 1149, the humorous 1990 internet standard that defines IP over carrier pigeon, is being offered at Christie's as part of its fine printed books and manuscripts science sale. The April Fool's RFC, written by David Waitzman, became a beloved piece of internet lore, and the artifact from the first real transmission is now drawing attention from collectors and engineers alike.

Why now: Collectors and internet history fans are fascinated that a joke protocol artifact is entering the formal auction market at Christie's.
