First RFC1149 avian carrier packet auctioned at Christie's

Original: The first packet sent via RFC1149 avian carrier is up for auction at Christie's

The printed message from the first data packet ever transmitted using RFC1149, the April Fools' protocol that defines IP over carrier pigeon, is being sold at Christie's as part of its Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts including Science sale. The 2001 stunt by a Norwegian group demonstrated that internet protocols can run on birds. Collectors and technologists are discussing the unusual item's value as computing history.

Why now: The physical artefact of a famous internet joke protocol surfacing at a major auction house is novel and nostalgic for the tech community.
