Audre Lorde quote on self-care resurfaces online

Original: ❝ Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare. ❞ ― Audre

A widely shared quotation from writer and activist Audre Lorde is circulating again: "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare." The line comes from "A Burst of Light", also known as "The Cancer Chronicles", which Lorde wrote while dying of breast cancer in the late 1980s. Readers are sharing it as a reminder that rest and self-care were, for Lorde, radical acts for Black women facing illness and injustice.

Why now: The quote is being recirculated as a touchstone in ongoing debates about self-care, health and political resistance.
