Poison Bread and Unaffordable Circuses Fuel Cost-of-Living Anger
Original: Posion bread, unaffordable circuses, just subscriptions and microplastics. # Zer0Billionaires # socialsciences # poverty
A satirical slogan circulating on social media combines 'poison bread', 'unaffordable circuses', 'just subscriptions' and microplastics into a single indictment of modern life under economic inequality. The framing echoes 'bread and circuses', suggesting people are paying ever more for basics while everything from food to entertainment is degraded by additives, paywalls and pollution. It is being shared under tags about poverty and US politics, with commenters treating it as a shorthand for late-stage capitalist exhaustion.
Why now: Ongoing anger over the cost of living, paywalled services and declining quality of everyday goods is finding expression in viral satirical slogans.
