Cricket's crackdown on 'bunny-hop' catches draws criticism
Original: Cricket is cracking down on ‘bunny-hop’ catches. It’s a nonsense that penalises brilliance
Cricket authorities are moving to penalise fielders who complete catches mid-air and then step over the boundary in a 'bunny-hop' motion before throwing the ball back into play. Critics of the crackdown, including commentators, argue the rule punishes extraordinary athleticism and brilliance rather than genuine cheating, and have called the amendment a nonsense.
Why now: A newly enforced or proposed rule change on boundary catches is being debated for outlawing spectacular athletic plays.
